GOOD OLD DAYS

We never thought of it back then
Spending all that time together

Never wondering how it all would end
And never wondering when

We thought those days would always last
But we're older now, and it's scary how much time has passed
It all went by so fast

But time has a way of knocking you down
When you think you’ve got it all worked out
The ones you love won’t always be there
So learn to pick yourself up from the ground

'Cause the good old days of fun
Of being young and wanting nothing more than lying in the sun
They never last for long

It’s true that life is a breeze
When your responsibilities are slim
But when you’re grown, with kids of your own
That’s when the good old new days will begin

THE BLOODY OBVIOUS

Well, I woke up this morning - well, obviously I did
'Cause it's not like you can write a song

While lying in your bed (or so I've read)

So I pulled off the covers, p
ut my feet flat on the floor
And then, with some effort, walked over to the door

These things aren't interesting and they are not unique
But they're the things that fill the hours
Fill the days, fill the weeks

Why do we waste time on mundanities?
The bloody obvious things?
There's so much more we could be doing
And so much that goes unsaid
Still we waste time saying nonsense instead
That all sounded so much smarter in my head

So I went (So I went)
To work (I went to work)
And I came home (And then I came home)
At night (Came home at night)
Like I always do (Like I always do)

This whole 'my average day' thing has gone on for far too long
And it sounds a lot like Paul's part of that Sgt. Pepper song

(You know the one)

Making something out of nothing is a gift
Or a sign that, creatively, you've got nothing left

(Why do we waste time?)
Why do we waste time on mundanities?
(Mundanities)
The bloody obvious things?
(All the bloody obvious things)
There's so much more we could be doing
(There's so much we could be doing)
And so much that goes unsaid
(There's so much that goes unsaid)
Still we waste time saying nonsense instead
(Nonsense instead)
That all sounded so much cooler in my head

Hello, good morning, how are you?
I'm good, thanks, how are you?
Weatherman says we might get rain
That traffic jam is such a pain
Hello, good morning, how are you?
I'm good, thanks, how are you?
Please, shut up – you're such a bore
I just can't take it any more!

(Why do we waste time?)
Why do we waste time on mundanities?
(Mundanities)
The bloody obvious things?
(All the bloody obvious things)
There's so much more we could be doing
(There's so much we could be doing)
And so much that goes unsaid
(There's so much that goes unsaid)
Still we waste time saying nonsense instead
(Nonsense instead)
That all sounded so much smarter, cooler, deeper in my head

IF I HAD A CLONE

If I had a clone to accompany me
I'd probably spend even more time in my own company
And we could trade off

Who goes to work and who gets the day off
I'd be the king who shared a throne
If I had a clone

And if I had a clone there would always be
Someone who enjoys doing all the same things as me
Someone who likes fun

Someone who'd laugh at all of my bad puns
No, I'd never be alone
If I had a clone

Well, I could go to bars and be my own wing-man
Harmonise with myself when I sing and
Play with myself (wait, what?)

At video-games (oh, right)
And we could freak out our friends

With 'The Transported Man' trick
There would never be any conflict
Because we'd think the same
If I had a clone I'd be okay

If I had a clone I could finally see
What everybody else sees when they look at me
But what if I find that, in fact, I'm not such a nice guy?
The illusion would be blown
If I had a clone

Well, I could go to bars and be my own wing-man
Harmonise with myself when I sing and
Play with myself (here it comes)

At video-games (there it is!)
And we could freak out our friends

With 'The Transported Man' trick
There would never be any conflict
Because we'd think the same
If I had a clone I'd be okay
If I had a clone we'd be okay

THIS TIME LAST WEEK

This time last week there was a light
At the end of the tunnel, burning bright
Hoping it just might lead me far
I followed it like a guiding star
Oh, I followed it like a guiding star

But it led me on and it left me burned
Another bitter lesson learned
The same one I learned a thousand times
Life can be cruel as well as kind
Yes, life can be cruel as well as kind

Will I ever find what I'm searching for?
It's always hard work and no reward
And every time it hurts a little bit more than the time before

There was a time I had a dream
But now that dream has gone from me
And tomorrow has become today
And I'm always amazed how much things can change
In seven little days, oh no
Seven little days

This time last week I met a girl
Pretty soon she became my world
I fell for her and she for me
But I had a surprise in store for me
Yes, I had a surprise in store for me

She wasn't what I thought she was
And it was all my fault because
I was chasing a fantasy
I only saw what I wanted to see
Yes, I only saw what I wanted to see

So the dream had died, soon as it had begun
We had some good times – yeah, it was fun
But now it's all just a memory and I'm stuck back in square one

There was a time I had a dream
But now that dream is gone from me
And tomorrow has become today
I had a plan, a wish, a goal
Now all I see is open road
With no one to guide the way
And I'm always amazed how much things can change
In seven little days, oh no
Seven little days

I think the reason why I'm so naïve
And why I fool myself
Is when I see these things, I like to believe
They're the path's way of slowly revealing itself

PERFECTION

When we first met I had no expectations
No sweaty palms or dinner reservations
But one look at you and my jaw was on the floor
And I knew that I had to know more

The first things that I noticed were your common sense
Your wicked sense of humour and intelligence
And when I found we had in common many things
I thought to myself ‘this looks promising’

I got a pretty girl and all the time in the world
And I’m so proud I get to call you mine
‘Cause all I know is every time I’m with you
I always end up having the best time

Now it’s been a year and things keep getting better
She likes to make me happy and I let her
And I always try my best to do the same for her
I'm hoping it can stay like this forever

Any fights we have are few and far between
And when they’re over, we’re closer than we’ve ever been

Before we met, my life was going nowhere
And without you I would have ended up God-knows-where
But now you’re here I finally have direction
You’ve given me a glimpse of perfection

ALL I COULD DO

I wonder could I have done more?
Or was I just not as good as the ones who came before?
I think the answer lies somewhere in between
So goodbye love, you’re still the best I’ve ever seen

Should I try to make amends?
Or should I just leave and hope we can stay friends?
And if I failed you, if that’s how I made you feel
I’m so sorry, I hope in time the wounds will heal

But if you were to ask me
How I feel about this deal, I don’t really know
How could I know that I was slipping
If you never let me know?

Now in the clear light of day
I can see it's better now that we've parted ways
We had our troubles, I won’t try to pretend it was perfect
But I’m still sad to see it end

But in the end, I’m still not sure
What you wanted me to be, as a matter of fact
You don’t care if you’re fair when you react
Because I did my best for you, and that’s all I could do

DON'T YOU

I can't undo this thing, can't sweep it under the rug
Can't escape from this hole that I have dug
I've heard that things like these a
re sent to test your resolve
By giving you a problem you can't solve

These aren't the merry days I hoped they would be
I'm a lifeboat and I'm caught in stormy seas

And so you tell me “slow down
Keep on smiling like you've never seen the dark
Don't you let 'em in - t
hey will never win if you hold true
And don't you lose the spark t
hat burns behind your eyes
Hope will light the darkest times”

You tell me “stay the course, d
on't you surrender to the tide
When there's nowhere to turn, nowhere to hide
When this ordeal is done, w
hen you wash upon the shore
The ghost of it won't hurt you anymore”

These aren't the merry days I hoped they would be
I'm a lifeboat and I'm caught in stormy seas

CHORUS

“Just slow down,
Keep on smiling like you've never seen the dark
Don't you let 'em in - t
hey will never win if you hold true
And don't you lose the spark t
hat burns behind your eyes

Hope will light the darkest times"

I'VE GOT SOMETHING TO TELL YOU

I've got something to tell you – I'm in love
I've been dying to tell you – I'm in love
I've been telling everybody, it's true
Seems like everybody knows, except you

I've been trying to tell you, but I can't
Every time I try to, I just can't
So simple yet so difficult to say
Yet somehow I need to find a way

I've got something to tell you – I'm in love
I've been dying to tell you – I'm in love
I've been telling everybody, it's true
Seems like everybody knows, except you

I've got something to tell you – I'm in love
I need to tell you – I'm in love
And the one that I'm in love with is you
Now everybody knows I love you
Hope will light the darkest times”

ALWAYS ARRIVES

I know it's foolish to wish for such things
But is there a super-hero waiting in the wings?
I could do with a miracle to rescue me today

Help, it always arrives in the nick of time
You'll be just fine, I promise you that
Help is on the way – it'll be here soon
They're coming to save the day
And they're coming to save you
They're coming to save you too soon

What are you waiting for?

A second, and they're gone
But a second's all they need to right all the wrongs

I know it's foolish to wish for such things
But is there a superhero waiting in the wings?
I could do with a miracle

Help, it always arrives in the nick of time
You'll be just fine, I promise you that
Help is on the way – it'll be here soon
They're coming to save the day
And they're coming to save you
They're coming to save you
They're coming to save you
